JM Vinyasa
Open

This is Lighthouse Yoga School’s signature open level vinyasa class. Breathing is used as a meditation, serving as a guide to create space from the inside out. Teachers focus on creating balance with the body’s strength and flexibility. JM Vinyasa aims to clear blockages in the central channel, speaking to the major Chakras of the body.

This class blends many styles of yoga such as Ashtanga, Bikram, Iyengar, Forrest, and Dharma yoga. The practice aims to bridge gaps in yoga traditions, allowing practitioners to learn from all styles and not just one. Every class includes standing postures, hip openers, backbends, forward bends, twists, and inversions. Most classes include chanting, kriyas, or meditation. All levels are welcome.

JM Vinyasa
Intermediate/Open

JM Vinyasa (intermediate) is a challenging class with vinyasa and hatha sequences taught by senior Lighthouse teachers. Each class offers unique sequencing focused on strength, flexibility, breath, and movement. Advanced standing postures, hip openers, backbends, forward bends, twists, and inversions will be taught. Pranayama, chanting, meditation, and kriyas will be taught to varying degrees depending on the teacher. Teachers focus on clearing blockages in the central channel, speaking to the major Chakras in the body. Students are encouraged to feel comfortable with JM Vinyasa (Open Level) before taking the Class.

Often, the JM Vinyasa (intermediate) class will close with 30 minutes of optional Kriya Yoga. The Kriya yoga system consists of varying levels of pranayama, mantra, and mudra based techniques whose goal is to accelerate the natural progression of Divine Consciousness. Teachers who lead this practice utilize Kriyas from the Yogi Bhajan, Yogi Babaji, and Kundalini (Sikh) traditions. The goal of Kriya yoga is to create energy and balance in each individual’s central channel, utilizing the Chakra system. All levels welcome.

Led Ashtanga
Open

Ashtanga Yoga is a classical yoga practice created by master teacher K. Pattabhi Jois. Almost all modern day vinyasa styles stem from the Ashtanga tradition, which links breath and movement to specific asana sequences.

The Led Ashtanga classes are taught by Lighthouse’s most senior teachers. In this dynamic class you will practice a traditional series of Ashtanga Yoga, typically the Primary or Secondary series. Each series includes standing postures, forward bends, backbends, twists, and inversions. Chanting and traditional invocations may also be included in class. All levels welcome.

Dharma Yoga
Open

Dharma Yoga is a graceful, yet challenging form of yoga based on Sri Dharma Mittra’s nearly fifty years of classical yoga practice. Asanas will be taught with different variations in order to meet every students level of practice. As students move through the series, they are encouraged to go deeper and experience the practice in a meditative and spiritual way. Twists, standing postures, forward bends, backbends, and inversions are included in each class. Chanting, pranayama, and meditation are also practiced. All levels welcome.

Hatha Yoga
Intermediate/Open

This class is composed of the 84 classic hatha yoga postures. Postures are not joined or sequenced like a vinyasa class, but are done one after another in a specific order. Standing poses, arm balances, twists, forward bends, backward bends, hip openers, and inversions are all included and grouped together. This practice is grounding, challenging, and strengthening and students will most likely not be able to achieve all 84 yoga postures, however students are encouraged to do what they can and hold the poses as long as is comfortable. The pacing is fast to get through all poses in the allotted time. This is a specific sequence taken from the Bishnu Gosh lineage, who is Pramahansa Yogananda’s brother.
