About Our Classes

Lighthouse Yoga School is dedicated to the study and teaching of yoga to aid in the evolution of mankind. What makes Lighthouse different from other schools is that we have some of the best yoga asana teachers in the world, and we offer a holistic yoga education to all students. This education includes pranayama or breath control techniques, meditation, kriyas, and yoga philosophy.

At Lighthouse, we do not believe any one particular style or lineage of yoga is better than another. We strive to provide a comprehensive system that brings students clarity, strength, and connection.

JM Vinyasa (Open Level)
This is Lighthouse Yoga School’s signature open level vinyasa class. Breathing is used as a meditation, serving as a guide to create space from the inside out. Teachers focus on creating balance with the body’s strength and flexibility. JM Vinyasa aims to clear blockages in the central channel, speaking to the major chakras of the body.

This class blends many styles of yoga such as Ashtanga, Bikram, Iyengar, Forrest, and Dharma yoga. The practice aims to bridge gaps in yoga traditions, allowing practitioners to learn from all styles and not just one. Every class includes standing postures, hip openers, backbends, forward bends, twists, and inversions. Most classes include chanting, kriyas, or meditation. All levels are welcome.
JM Vinyasa (Intermediate)
JM Vinyasa (Intermediate) is a challenging class with vinyasa and hatha sequences taught by senior Lighthouse teachers. Each class offers unique sequencing focused on strength, flexibility, breath, and movement. Advanced standing postures, hip openers, backbends, forward bends, twists, and inversions will be taught. Pranayama, chanting, meditation, and kriyas will be taught to varying degrees depending on the teacher. Teachers focus on clearing blockages in the central channel, speaking to the major chakras in the body. Often, this class will close with 30 minutes of optional Kriya Yoga. Students are encouraged to first get comfortable with JM Vinyasa (Open-Level) before taking this class.
JM Vinyasa Core (Open Level)
This challenging, 60-minute class will focus on building core strength and joint stability through the use of yoga asana, abdominal isolations, and Pilates principles. JM Vinyasa Core also encourages students to continue developing flexibility and mobility within the body while using the breath to create awareness, stability, and space from the inside out.

JM Vinyasa blends many styles of yoga: Ashtanga, Bikram, Forrest, Iyengar, and Dharma Yoga. This practice aims to bridge the gaps in these yoga traditions, allowing practitioners to learn from all styles — not just one. Each class includes standing postures, hip openers, backbends, forward folds, twists, and inversions. All levels are welcome.
Hatha 15 Yoga (Open Level)
Hatha15 Yoga is a restorative hatha class that does not include vinyasas. 15 classic postures will be taught and interspersed with savasanas. This therapeutic, healing class will complement a strong vinyasa practice or accommodate students who do not want to practice vinyasa yoga. The Hatha15 sequence is highly effective for healing injuries and fixing imbalances in the body.
Hatha 84 Yoga (Intermediate)
This challenging, 84-Asana class comes from the Bishnu Ghosh lineage and begins with Pranayama Deep Breathing and a series of short flows, after which each of the remaining poses are practiced in the hatha style with no vinyasas in between. Standing poses, arm balances, twists, forward folds, backbends, hip openers, inversions and advanced variations will be taught. This practice is grounding, challenging, and strengthening. Students are not required to be able to achieve all 84 postures to attend this class, but instead are encouraged to do what they can while paying attention to their breath and alignment. The pacing is fast to get through all poses in the allotted time. This class is not suitable for beginner students.
Led Ashtanga (Primary Series)
Ashtanga Yoga is a classical yoga practice created by master teacher K. Pattabhi Jois. Almost all modern day vinyasa styles stem from the Ashtanga tradition, which links breath and movement to specific asana sequences.

Led Ashtanga classes are taught by Lighthouse’s most senior teachers. In this dynamic class you will practice a traditional series of Ashtanga Yoga, typically the Primary or Secondary series. Each series includes standing postures, forward bends, backbends, twists, and inversions. Chanting and traditional invocations may also be included in class. All levels are welcome.
Backbending + Conditioning
This class focuses on conditioning and strengthening the spine. All postures prepare you to backbend safely using not just flexibility but also strength. Tibetan yoga traditions are used as a warm up. Wall-walks, handstands, and scorpions will be practiced during class with optional use of the wall (wall-walks or drop-backs). Students will leave class feeling energized. All levels welcome.
Vinyasa-Hatha Fusion (Beginners Welcome)
This 75-minute class blends classic Hatha, Dharma and Ashtanga yoga, and aims to bridge the gaps between these yoga traditions so students can experience varying styles in one class. Every class includes standing postures, hip openers, backbends, forward bends, twists, and inversions. Most classes include chanting, kriyas, or meditation. Beginners or Intermediate practitioners are welcome. Variations are allowed and encouraged.
Rocket Yoga (Open Level)
Rocket Yoga is a dynamic and fast-paced flow series rooted in the Ashtanga vinyasa system. Classes include a combinations of postures from the primary and intermediate series of Ashtanga, as well as some postures from the advanced series. This style was developed by Larry Schultz in San Francisco in the 1980s, and is also know as "The Rocket." Schultz's system stems from his many years of practice under his teacher Sri K. Pattabhi Jois, the creator of the Ashtanga Vinyasa system. Classes typically include standing postures, inversions, hip openers, forward folds, backbends, and arm balancing postures.
Kundalini
The kriya yoga system consists of varying levels of pranayama, mantra, and mudra based techniques whose common goal is to accelerate the natural progression of divine consciousness. Teachers who lead this practice utilize kriyas from the Yogi Bhajan, Yogi Babaji, and Kundalini traditions. This class will begin with a vinyasa warmup where breathing is used as a meditation, serving as a guide to create space from the inside out.

Teachers focus on creating balance with the body’s strength and flexibility. This class aims to clear blockages in the central channel, speaking to the major chakras of the body.
Candlelit Vinyasa (Beginners Welcome)
Prepare for the week ahead with our candlelit vinyasa flow. This vinyasa sequence includes standing postures, twists, forward bends, backbends, and inversions. Classes end with a restorative series and extended savasana complete with a mini neck and shoulder massage using natural oils. All levels welcome.

Explanation of Levels

BEGINNERS WELCOME

This is a one-hour class suitable for students that are new to yoga. Explanation will be given on how to achieve each pose to the best of the student’s ability with an emphasis on proper alignment and breath. New students are encouraged to introduce themselves to the teacher in the minutes before class and let him or her know that they are beginners so that the teacher can make sure they feel supported as they work to establish their yoga practice. Intermediate and advanced students are also welcome, and free to adjust their practice during this class accordingly.

OPEN LEVEL

Open-level classes are suitable for all levels of practitioner, however we suggest that beginner students have some familiarity with the Sun Salutations (Surya Namaskara A + B). The pacing and postures may feel challenging, but students are not at all required to have mastered any difficult poses for this class— this is the class where you will learn how to approach them, and build strength and stamina along the way.  We invite you to try these classes with an open mind and playful attitude that will support your progress and growth without feeling the pressure for perfection.

INTERMEDIATE

Intermediate classes give students the opportunity to practice more challenging poses and further develop their strength and flexibility.  While this class may seem difficult at first, we understand that the only way to grow is to try.  Show up with an open mind and ready to work— progress is inevitable!  Students are encouraged to feel comfortable with the Open Level class before joining.
